FAQ

Neurofeedback

1) How long does it take to see an effect?

It varies between individuals. Some report progress in just ten sessions. Others typically require 20 to 40 sessions to see visible improvements. Neurofeedback is a learning process and it takes time.

Do note that there are several factors that affect the efficacy and length of this therapy. One of them is the motivation of the trainee. Neurofeedback is not an automatic process, it requires effort of the trainee to try to alter his/her brainwaves. Usually, we see those who put in effort (to score points) tend to improve faster compared with those who are not. Those with high toxic metal accumulation in the body (which could be determined using Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis) also tends to take longer time to respond to this training. Toxic metals have great impact on one’s learning ability.

2) During the training session, the person appears to be engaged in games, but when it comes to studying, will this brain exercise help one to focus?

Yes. During the brain exercise one learns how to regulate his/her brainwaves. Over time, once the person starts to internalize the learning process, he/she will be able to produce the desirable brainwave patterns independently in one’s daily activities, without needing any cues from the Neurofeedback system.

3) How frequent will Neurofeedback sessions be?

We would recommend at least two to three sessions per week for initial stage of training. Training can gradually reduce to 1 or twice a week when one starts to internalise this learning process and can control his/her brainwaves better. With our Home Training Program, training can be done more frequently (say 5 to 7 session per week) at the comfort of one’s home and at much lower costs for long term solution. Similar to physical exercise, regular training will produce a better effect; at the same time we also do not encourage one to overtrain.

4) Are there any side-effects with Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is considered a safe and non-invasive method. Compared to the conventional use of drugs and medical intervention, Neurofeedback produces effect less immediate but at the same time is safe from negative side-effects. Lack of side-effects is a major reason for the use of Neurofeedback, e.g. in ADHD cases where pratitioners use Neurofeedback to slowly wean their patient off medication such as Ritalin etc. This is done under medical supervision.

5) Can this training applied to very young child?

So far, we do work with children as young as 4 years old. To get them engaged, feedback such as video or music that are attractive to them are being played. They would be watching the video and attempting to play it. This happens quite instinctively.

HTMA

1) What are the preparations that I need to do prior to testing?

  • Hair to be washed clean and dry.
  • Use non-anti-dandruff shampoo.  If anti-dandruff shampoo is used, use a mild shampoo to wash the hair for at least a week before obtaining the hair.
  • Hair should be free of gels, oils, and hair creams prior to sample collection.
  • Make sure minimum hair length is 1 inch at the back of the head.

2) How do I get my hair tested?

You can either call us to make an appointment to get your hair sampled or email us to request for a sampling kit. Please follow the instructions stated when sampling the hair.

3) How much hair is needed?

About 150mg, which is approximately 2 to 3 teaspoonfuls (taken in small bundles from nape area, posterior vertex and posterior temporal regions). Length required is 1 to 1.5 inches nearest to scalp.

4) How soon will I get my report?

Five to ten working days from the day we receive your sample.

5) I am bald. Is there other ways to get myself tested for toxic metals?

Other body hair such as pubic hair can be used for the purpose of testing for toxic metals accumulation in body. However, it does not reflect the accurate levels of other nutritional minerals in the body due to the difference in metabolic growth rate compared to scalp hair.

6) I colored my hair. Can I do this test?

It would be ideal if you could wait until sufficient virgin, untreated hair emerge to allow for sampling. But for those with no major health concern, colored hair is acceptable as the chemical used in coloring is different from those being tested.

QEEG

1) What are the preparations required prior to QEEG Brain mapping?

    • Hair to be washed clean and dry 1 or 2 hours before the mapping.
    • Have adequate rest the night before
    • Avoid taking any medications if possible. Do inform us if you are taking any medications

2) How do I get my QEEG brain mapping done?

Give us a call or email us to arrange for an appointment.

3) How long would the test be?

It takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.

4) Would I get my report immediately after the test?

It would take about 2 weeks of analysis for the report to be ready.

5) What can I expect from this test?

It will provide you with an idea of how you utilize your brain while engaging in different tasks compared to the norm. Which is your dominant brain (Left vs Right brain) as well as the stronger and weaker brain location(s) which corresponds to different mental functioning.
